from the original press release . . .

For all you lazy bastards, that don’t feel like listening to an entire hour and fifteen minutes of music, below are my “quickie” reviews for each of the Fear Into Fuel entries. The artists might completely disagree with me, as may you, but hopefully this will give you a clue.

LUGHEAD
Raspy vocals pushing big hooks on top of rock-n-roll guitars are sure to pull in comparisons to the ’Mats but please don’t tell me that my orgasm sucks just because it’s been done before.

BLANKET PARTY
The song crafting of Big Star blended with the hit-and-run taste of Pavement keep this Boston trio fun and dangerous.

CRAWDAD
The Meices on acid. Sonic Youth on the farm. Crawdad kicks big dookie-ass butt!

MULER
Exploding with the youthful energy of Green Day, these boys from Rochester win awards for sexiest vocal and the most drunken drummer.

DRYER
Nubile punk from Saratoga, NY. A new breed of Blondie and The Buzzcocks. Their first cut proves that girl singers rule.

CAN’T SAY
Albany’s masters of “crunchska” smash a wedge between Pantera and The Toasters. (That’s a mighty big wedge).

1000 YOUNG
Molding a bit of theater with adept musicianship, 1000 Young take what Bauhaus was doing and crushes it six hundred and sixty-six steps into a beautiful hell. This is the big giant shit.

MERCY TWIN
The offspring of Bob Mould and Matthew Sweet. Potent and infectious stuff from this Catskill, NY trio.

BEEF
Mix the pure force of Big Black with the uniqueness of The Fall and then try to fit the word “wholesome” into that description. All of that and even louder.

MICHAEL ECK
Fuck folk rock, this is honest solo rock-n-roll. Leave your preconceptions at the door, sit down, shut up and listen.
