Thrashing around like only three young’uns from Saratoga Springs, NY, can, Dryer make a great first impression with these four punky nuggets. After a lifetime of twinkies and cola, Dryer pops out with the Letterbox E.P. Dominick says they sort of sound like a cross between Superchunk and Blondie. Dryer says he’s full of shit.
Bright infectious old-style power pop that reminded me immediately of The Rezillos, especially the girl vocalist, but for a change of pace you get to hear a guy sing as well. I loved “I Can’t Wait.” That song gets stuck in my brain all the time and I’ll find myself singing it at work, but you have to be in the right mood to listen to this high-energy pop, or it can get tiring. Probably a great band to see live. If they came to L.A., I’ll be sure to catch their show — but not without taking my pep pills first.
